Microsoft’s ‘Smurface Edition’ laptop is real, but it’s not very blue

Summary

  • Microsoft released a limited “Smurface Edition” laptop featuring Smurfs on the lid for $1,000.
  • The laptop is essentially the same as the standard 13-inch Surface Laptop, with a blue Windows logo and some Smurfs laser-etched on it.
  • Microsoft should’ve made the entire laptop blue instead of silver.

Microsoft isn’t typically known for releasing limited-edition Surface products, but the tech giant seems to have made an exception for the Smurfs.

Recently, the tech giant quietly launched a limited-edition Surface Laptop called the “Smurface Edition,” which features a blue Windows logo and some Smurfs laser-etched onto the lid. The collaboration is intended to celebrate the new Smurfs movie, which released in theaters earlier this month.

I’m not a Smurfs expert, but it appears that the Smurface Edition has Brainy Smurf, Hefty Smurf, Smurfette, and some fuzzy-looking creature on it. The laptop is available for $1,000 exclusively on Amazon and is reportedly limited to only 1,000 units.

5 hardware upgrades I want to see in Microsoft’s next Surface tablet

I’m a big fan of Microsoft’s new 12-inch Surface Pro model, but there’s always room for improvement. Here are five things currently on my wishlist.

The Smurface Edition isn’t exactly groundbreaking

Where’s the limited edition Master Chief Surface Laptop?

Smurfs laptop.

Under the hood, Microsoft’s special Smurface Edition laptop is the same as the standard 13-inch Surface Laptop, which launched in May. It features a 13-inch touchscreen display, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a Snapdragon X Plus processor.

My biggest complaint with this laptop is that Microsoft didn’t fully commit to making the entire device blue. When you think of Smurfs, you think of the color blue. A limited-edition blue Surface Laptop would’ve been nice to see, but instead, Microsoft just added blue to the Windows logo, etched some Smurfs, and called it a day.

I’ll give them credit for the Smurface Edition name — that’s pretty funny. However, as far as limited editions go, this one feels pretty lackluster. Also, out of all the collaborations Microsoft could’ve done for its Surface laptop, it chose the Smurfs?

I like the idea of Microsoft doing limited-edition Surface collaborations, but maybe it should raise the bar a bit. Where’s the limited edition Halo Surface Laptop? You know, the franchise Microsoft actually owns? Slap Master Chief on it and give it a nice green color, and now we’re talking. They could even call it the Surface 117. You’re welcome, Microsoft.

However, if Smurfs are your thing, I respect that. The Smurface Edition laptop is available on Amazon now for $1,000. Since only 1,000 units are available, it might not be around for long once the Smurf fan community catches on.
