You connected with a Director on LinkedIn who posted a job, and she accepted your request… but then went silent. Now what? Do you reach out again, or just apply online and hope for the best?
I added a director as a contact on LinkedIn who had posted a job I’m interested in. She accepted my request but didn’t respond back. Do I reach out or just apply online? I’d reach out to her, and simply say, “I saw a position available at your firm that looked like it was one that you might be recruiting for or might be reporting to you”.
This is the role, is that with you or is it with someone else? Then, you know, wait for the response. Now, if it’s two days and you don’t get a response, it tells me that she’s not monitoring her LinkedIn messages with any regularity. That’s one of the dirty little secrets of LinkedIn. I’m on all day, so from the time I log on in the morning till the time I wind down, and even then afterwards, I’ll monitor things on my phone. You know, I’m on all day, but not everyone else is.
So, I would follow up after a day and say, “I sent a message to you. I’m sorry if I’m being pushy, but I saw this job that was advertised and it looks like it might be with a group that you manage. Is that true? Could I submit my resume to you directly?” And she will normally respond back at that point with an apology for not responding sooner, and then tell you exactly what to.
