Muscles do not define strength even when it comes to gods, legends, and superheroes. Marvel Cinematic Universe is the fictional proof of it with two cornerstones of unfathomable power: Wanda Maximoff and Sue Storm. While the Invisible Woman controls force fields with scalpel-sharp accuracy, Scarlet Witch controls chaos magic and manipulates reality. As both icons walk towards significant MCU roles in the future, in The Fantastic Four (2025) and presumably in Secret Wars, fans are wondering who sits at the top of Marvel’s female power hierarchy.
It all boils down to one question of reality warping vs energy manipulation: who would win in a fight?
A battle of true power: Invisible Woman vs Wanda Maximoff

In the words of Agatha Harkness, the Scarlet Witch is forged with power that surpasses even the Sorcerer Supreme. Fans have experienced her capabilities firsthand when she almost destroyed Thanos and an entire town. The notorious Darkhold user, Wanda Maximoff, wields chaos magic, can alter reality, perform transmutation of matter, telekinesis, projection of energy, illusions, time manipulation, and even life creation. Maximoff is a danger not only to herself but to all of existence, proof of which has been served through MCU’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she seemingly dies trying to shred every fabric of reality in search of her children.

Invisible Woman, a human mutate, on the other hand, has four PhDs in bio-chemical sciences and a godly understanding of her powers. She can make herself invisible, create shields using force fields, construct walls and domes spanning miles, and even levitate objects. Storm can also unravel the inner workings of any living or non-living object and render them invisible, generating indestructible force fields physically and psionically. Safe to say, she is the most powerful superhero among the Fantastic Four, the upcoming adaptation of which is going to bring a ’60s aesthetic to life. She did not gain insurmountable powers overnight, but gradually evolved into a formidable being.
The debate, however, still remains as to which of the two divas is the strongest.
Wanda Maximoff as the ultimate destroyer vs Sue Storm as the protector
Sue Storm’s genius, if pitted against Wanda Maximoff’s magic, would perhaps incite fan wars, infinitely greater than any battle the Avengers have fought. One of Marvel’s most loved traits is to create humane superheroes with access to real-world emotions. In this light, one can picture the Invisible Woman as the greatest protector. She is capable of neutralizing threats of the Beyonders’ level, i.e., the Cosmic Cube, which can manipulate reality and energy. Storm once used her force fields to hold it off to protect her team. She had also blocked out the sun in a small region to kill some algae.

If WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2 taught fans anything, it is that the Lady in Red is both the ultimate destroyer of existence and a doting mother and devoted lover; when she spirals, chaos ensues. She has seamlessly slaughtered Earth-838’s Black Bolt, Mr. Fantastic, Captain Carter, and Captain Marvel like fleas. Having appeared in several MCU movies, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, who recently sparked some wild Spider-Man crossover rumors, has cemented herself as arguably the strongest Avenger, even surpassing a god, to some extent. With the peril of Kang the Conqueror and his many variants, losing her does not look good for the new Avengers, as she is single-handedly capable of annihilation.
Fans, however, think no other MCU character can easily surpass Wanda Maximoff.
MCU fandom’s esteemed opinions and canonical theories
Reddit users commonly name Maximoff as the strongest Marvel hero, due to her capacity to alter reality and traverse the multiverse, even threaten cosmic beings, and warp timelines. Some point to Storm’s sneakier and calculated violence: her force fields are invisible but deadly, capable of deflecting Jean Grey’s telepathy and inflicting unheard-of damage.
In real-world matchups, enthusiasts deem Wanda Maximoff largely superior, capable of removing competitors mentally and physically. But in strategic situations, Sue Storm’s defense and discipline make her a wild card. Whereas Storm defends worlds, Maximoff alters them. Maximoff’s powers might be greater in size, but Storm’s mastery and restraint make her equally powerful.

What to expect from two of Marvel’s strongest female superheroes?
Marvel is yet to unleash the full potential of either character. With MCU moving into a new phase, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch amasses epic prospects. At the end of Doctor Strange 2, her corpse is never discovered. Though Marvel has so far only confirmed Olsen’s return as Maximoff, fans hold out hope for her resurrection as the live-action role. However, Olsen has shut down all rumors of her appearing in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. Meanwhile, the baton of Sue Storm on the big screen has been passed from Jessica Alba to Kate Mara, and now finally to Vanessa Kirby. Fans can expect a visually and intellectually stunning Invisible Woman storyline going forward.
