On World Environment Day the Vinyl Institute of Canada (VIC) announced Project Win-Finity, a national pilot program aimed at recycling post-consumer PVC windows across Canada. Led by the VIC in partnership with Formosa Plastics Corporation (USA), the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), and Vision Extrusions Group—and supported by Fenestration Canada, Strategic Materials Inc., the Municipal Waste Association of Ontario, the Siding and Window Dealers Association of Canada, Viking Recyclers Inc., and EPL Plastics Inc.—the initiative will commence with a two-year pilot in the Greater Toronto Area beginning September 2025. The program’s objective is to divert used vinyl windows from landfill by establishing a circular-economy model for collection, deconstruction, and reintegration of recycled materials into new products.

The pilot emphasizes process development over new infrastructure, focusing on supply-chain logistics, standardized deconstruction workflows, and rigorous performance testing of recycled PVC profiles. Participating window installers will deposit end-of-life units into designated bins, after which recyclers will separate glass and metal components for conventional streams and route the PVC profiles to specialized recycling facilities. The project will assess material recovery rates, energy savings, and cost implications to build an economic viability case for broader provincial rollout. Anticipated benefits include reduced greenhouse-gas emissions from raw-material production, lower transportation costs for installers, and the creation of a scalable blueprint for post-consumer vinyl recycling nationwide.
