Nicki Minaj Recalls Being Offered to Join Recording Academy

During a recent Stationhead livestream on Thursday, July 10, Nicki Minaj revealed that the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammys, had come knocking with a major offer. “At one point, the Grammys asked me to be on the board. I appreciated it,” she said, calling it a “very, very, very kind gesture.” But Nicki said no thanks.

“My integrity couldn’t allow me to sit on the board of something that made absolutely no sense to me and to anyone that understands,” she explained.

She claims this all occurred before the release of her album ‘Pink Friday 2’ in December 2023. But Nicki made it clear she wasn’t about to compromise her principles and decided not to join. She even threw in some shade, questioning, “Why would I be sitting on the board if I don’t have a Grammy?” With 12 nominations and zero wins, Nicki is clearly baffled why she was asked to begin with.

Nicki’s Past Issues With The Grammys Stem From THIS 2012 Performance

Nicki’s history with the Grammys dates back well over a decade. Back in 2012, she was set to hit the stage with her song ‘Roman Holiday,’ and the Barbz were hyped. But the day before the show, tragedy struck with Whitney Houston’s passing. According to Nicki, the Grammy producers tried to pull her performance, claiming it wasn’t the right time.

But Nicki wasn’t having it. She did` the promo, her fans were ready, and she didn’t want to let them down. She moved ahead with an exorcism-themed performance that had everyone talking. The Academy’s producer, Ken Ehrlich, wasn’t thrilled either, especially when Nicki clapped back, saying they knew her plans all along.

“Even then it made absolutely no sense […] This is after I had done a bunch of commercials with L.L. Cool J to promote the Grammys […],” Nicki said. “After I did everything they asked, they told me not to perform. I said, ‘No I’m going to perform.’”

That moment left a sour taste, and Nicki believes this is why she was allegedly snubbed for a Grammy win despite her many nominations.

Nicki’s Recent Clapbacks at Jay-Z, Desiree Perez, and Megan Thee Stallion

Nicki’s not just throwing shade at the Grammys; she’s aimed her attention at many others in the industry lately. Recently, she lit up X with posts targeting Jay-Z, Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, and Megan Thee Stallion. The ‘Hard White’ rapper claimed Hov owes her big bucks, allegedly $100-200 million, from her equity in Tidal’s 2021 sale.

Nicki tweeted she’ll use it to fund her #StudentOfTheGame charity for fans’ college fees. “JayZ, call me to settle this karmic debt,” she wrote, still calling him a top-five fave, though. She also dragged Perez, accusing her of “abusing” her daughter, Demoree Hadley, referencing a lawsuit where Hadley claimed Perez falsely detained her. Nicki even tied it to her own swatting incidents, hinting at a pattern between the two.

Then, she reignited her feud with Megan Thee Stallion, shading her over a sexual harassment lawsuit from Megan’s ex-cameraman, Emilio Garcia, that a judge refused to dismiss. Nicki referenced Megan’s ‘Hiss’ diss about her husband, Kenneth Petty, and karma coming full circle.

“What was the name of that law again???????? Karma’s Law? Touch not my anointed law? Vengeance is the Lord’s law?” Nicki said in an Instagram post. “We give God the glory & he’s only just begun. Have a blessed day if you can. lol the blogs posting lies, thank you. More money for me. We’re working. Trust.”
