Clean the Sky – Solar Panel Murals

Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

The world’s largest solar panel mural has been unveiled at the SunRise Residential project in Edmonton, Alberta, developed by Mitrex, a North American leader in Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV). Officially recognized by Guinness World Records, “the 30,000-square-foot installation uses Mitrex’s eFacade PRO Plus BIPV panels to deliver over 265 kW of clean energy, powering a significant portion of the building’s operations.”

The mural, designed by Indigenous artist Lance Cardinal, blends Indigenous and Chinese cultural symbols, reflecting Edmonton’s rich diversity. Each solar panel integrates high-efficiency cells within vibrant designs, merging environmental performance with visual impact.

In addition to its artistic and cultural value, the installation is projected to “reduce approximately 150 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.” Moreover, the project exemplifies how BIPV technology can support urban revitalization, sustainable design, and clean energy goals while contributing to a culturally enriched built environment.
