The whimsical wedding of Mel B, 50, with her 37-year-old partner Rory McPhee was one for the history books, and most of the credit for it goes, of course, to the singer herself. Mel B made the affair a star-studded one with her pop culture influence, all while serving not one but two beautiful bridal looks. Her first ensemble included a dramatic white gown with sheer sleeves and pearl detailing by Josephine Scott, while her second was designed by Justin Alexander. The groom, meanwhile, donned a red tartan kilt for the special day.

For those unversed, Mel B and Rory McPhee turned their friendship into a romantic relationship in 2018 after knowing each other for several years. The development came as a surprise to many Spice Girls fans, as the musician had publicly sworn off marriage for good. Meanwhile, as Mel B celebrated her big day in two bridal looks, many wondered why neither of them was designed by her fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham — who, notably, was also absent from the ceremony.

Victoria Beckham, having made a name for herself as a designer, is a well-known fact, and hence, when Mel B did not wear a gown designed by her for the wedding, the detail became the talk of the town.  Furthermore, Beckham’s absence from the ceremony, despite her strong presence in elite fashion circles including the Kardashians, only added to the chatter. While there is no official word as to why Beckham did not contribute to Mel B’s wedding day couture — it could well have been the latter’s personal choice — a source did reveal that Beckham had a long-planned commitment outside the country.

Victoria Beckham, however, did share a post congratulating her friend on Instagram, writing, “Congratulations @officialmelb and @rorymcphee on your special day! I could not be more excited for you both and wish you a lifetime of happiness.”  Despite Beckham’s noticeable absence, Mel B appeared to savor every minute of her big day in her show-stopping silhouettes, and the grandeur of St Paul’s Cathedral as her backdrop only added to the fairytale allure of the event.
