Curious about cinematic photography but don’t know where to start? The term itself has been thrown around here and there for many things in the last decade or so. As a result, many creatives have become confused about what it really means. In a nutshell, there’s more to it than just color grading, shallow depth of field or aspect ratio. Max Kent tells us more and shares some neat tips and tricks in the video above.

Kent himself spent a few years learning about cinematography. So, he thought about sharing some of the most important aspects of it that we can apply to our photography. These include creating depth (instead of relying on shallow depth of field), controlling light to create a mood, and telling a story.
