British Airways (BA) has inked a multi-year deal to source sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced from waste materials, in a move expected to reduce the airline’s lifecycle emissions by roughly 400,000 tonnes of CO₂ over the agreement’s term. Under the arrangement, Hong Kong-based biofuels provider EcoCeres will supply BA with SAF made from used cooking oil and other waste-based feedstocks. The fuel provides up to an 80% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional jet fuel.

This SAF will help British Airways advance toward its parent IAG’s targets of 10% SAF use by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. BA noted that in 2024, it reached 2.7% SAF usage, cutting carbon intensity by 13% compared to 2019, and this new offtake will meaningfully boost those figures. Executives from both BA and EcoCeres hailed the partnership as a crucial step toward decarbonizing air travel and promoting more sustainable fuel production.
