Local design firm Sanders Pace Architecture has just completed the design of the Baker Creek Pavilion, which is a steel structure with ‘an innovative structural cantilever system.’ It is nestled in a large park in Knoxville, Tennessee, and works to reconnect the city with a network of green pathways and trail systems to join lakes, sites, playgrounds, nature preserves, and more.
The studio explains, “The pavilion is designed to be physical and porous from all directions, and, through an innovative structural cantilever system, the pavilion dramatically opens up through uninterrupted spans towards the cycling skills park. Though functional and rectilinear in organization, the overall form of the structure emphasizes fluid continuity from one planar surface to the next.”
