The Importance of Branding
One of the hard things that people have to do is ask for support when they’re job hunting. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search coaching and career advice globally because I do make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier.
One of the ways that you can ask for help isn’t necessarily for referrals per se. But, let’s say you’re on LinkedIn and you select five to 10 people you know well—people who know the kind of work that you do, who understand the kind of work that you do—and ask them to be like a support squad for you. What you do is ask them, “When you see something that makes sense for me, just in case I don’t see it, just in case I’m not connected to the players here, would you tag me on it?”. This way, you have people who are looking out to you for jobs, and they can recommend you for different types of things.
Best of all, you don’t have to find everything; you don’t have to do the heavy lifting. What you’re able to do is ask for their help, ask for their support, so that in this way you get recommendations to positions, and they wind up in your inbox, text, phone call, whatever.
