Clean the Sky – Circular Materials Hubs

Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

‘Nevold thread,’ made from recycled materials, is at the heart of Chanel’s new sustainability initiative, launched through its independent circular materials hub, Nevold. The Paris-based venture, led by former Patou CEO Sophie Brocart, marks a strategic expansion into material innovation focused on recycling, reuse, and scalability beyond luxury fashion.

Backed by €50–80 million in investment, Nevold incorporates existing Chanel-backed ventures like L’Atelier des Matières and Filatures du Parc, and has already developed two products: a recycled thread now featured in Chanel’s tweeds and a recycled leather reinforcement used in 30% of its handbags and 50% of shoes. Operating independently, Nevold aims to collaborate across various industries, including fashion, sportswear, and automotive, to address the rising demand for sustainable raw materials amid regulatory and resource constraints. The name ‘Nevold,’ derived from ‘never’ and ‘old,’ underscores its mission to create new from waste.
