Apple has revealed that more than 82 percent of compatible iPhones are running iOS 18, the latest version of its smartphone operating system. This is an increase from 68 percent in January.
The tech giant first showcased iOS 18 last June at WWDC and began its initial release in September 2024. All iPhones that are newer than the iPhone XR/XS can run iOS 18. Apple didn’t break down specific iOS 18 versions with regard to these release stats, so it’s unclear how many users are on the latest version of the OS.
Additionally, 88 percent of iPhones released in the last four years are running iOS 18, an increase from 76 percent in January. Apple also confirmed that 81 percent of iPads released in the last four years are running iPadOS 18, and that 71 percent of compatible iPads are on the update. Apple has not revealed specific usage numbers for its Apple Intelligence AI platform.
Next week, Apple is set to reveal the latest version of iOS at its WWDC 2025 keynote. However, instead of iOS 19, rumors indicate the next iteration of the software that powers the iPhone will be called iOS 26. All of Apple’s operating systems will reportedly adopt this new naming scheme, including iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, macOS 26, and more.
The update is expected to borrow visionOS’ more futuristic look and will focus on being easier to navigate and understand, according to reports. Beyond this, though, not much is known about the next version of iOS.
Next week, Pocket-lint will have all the key news from WWDC 2025 on our site.
