Two recent University of Brighton graduates have launched a project turning discarded NHS uniforms into stylish, upcycled bags in order to divert waste from landfills and raise funds for healthcare. The initiative, launched on May 29th in collaboration with NHS Sussex, features hand-stitched day bags made by Product Design graduate Angus Clifford in partnership with gomi, the Brighton sustainable design studio.
Crafted from retired medical scrubs collected from Brighton General Hospital with help from the Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, the bags are designed for everyday use and comfort. 100% of profits from the collection will go to the Sussex Community NHS Charity, supporting vital services and giving the uniforms a second life. The bags are also designed to honor the NHS workers who previously wore the uniforms, adopting bold color schemes and patterns.
