Architecture firm Behles & Jochimsen has designed the Regensburg Quarter. This is comprised of 35 colorful, affordable housing apartment blocks. It is located in Nuremberg, Germany just across from what was once the Nazy party rally grounds. The new design aims to contrast its history by integrating the buildings spatially and not ideologically.
Behles & Jochimsen co-founder Jasper Jochimsen explained, “We deliberately worked with urban typologies and scales that everyone is familiar with. Despite all economic constraints, we embraced every opportunity for differentiation. The alleys, the courtyards, the houses – they are all related, yet each is a bit different. We are building for a diverse society, so we aimed at a strong whole made up of many parts.”
