Doing a virtual job search? With so many companies having shut down operations and downsizing, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that the Internet still holds enormous potential as a tool for job hunting. The good news is there are still plenty of high-paying positions available – just be sure to do your due diligence before joining a firm. There are a few simple but powerful virtual job search networking tips you should follow. Follow these tips and you will find job openings every day.

First and foremost, be sure to text, email, and network. Texting and emailing are effective ways to stay in touch with leads and prospects without having to pick up a

phone. Social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook ley you quickly share information about job searches with people all over the world. Just be sure you are clear about what you want. Do not apply for every possible position until you have had time to think it through and decide what you are interested in and want.

Try to share at least one picture of yourself. Many people believe that a simple photograph of themselves can be used effectively to attract the attention of prospective employers and reconnect with people. However, a video says something different than a static photograph. If you want to stand out, include a bit of your personality and something that reflects your enthusiasm for the work you are after. This will help you stand out and show employers why they should choose you over all the other applicants

Make sure to record all the information you collect. Not only will it be helpful if you ever need to find specific details when talking to recruiters and hiring managers, but it’s also a great way to prove to employers that you’re organized and detail-oriented. Keep track of every communication you send out, particularly to agencies and search firms.

As you build your network of contacts, take time to consider what those contacts know about you personally. The more your network knows about you and your work history, the more likely they will be to recommend you to others, bringing you more opportunities. Check-in with friends and family members who may be hiring. If you are in sales, as you grow your virtual network, don’t forget to mention your ability to close deals. Mentioning the ability to close a deal as you introduce yourself to someone is a quick way to get them interested in you.

Be careful not to sound desperate when approaching anyone. Don’t respond to blind posting or bulletin boards that ask for an application. No matter how many virtual job search tips you read, this is not the time to beg people to hire you. It may be easier to approach these contacts one-on-one if you have done some research to learn as much as possible about them and their business.

When you finally come across someone who may be interested in hiring you, introduce yourself. This is definitely a time to emphasize your unique skills, strengths and positive attributes. Use this opportunity to make a personal connection with these potential employers to help land an interview.

Finally, remember that the goal of any virtual job search is to gain as many contacts as you can. Don’t burn yourself out by hanging out with the same old people.
