Ye is back in the spotlight for all the controversial reasons, after dropping a new single, ‘Heil Hitler,’ which has ignited intense backlash. Nonetheless, after much outrage, the track was quickly removed from platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud, but it continues to rack up millions of streams on Elon Musk’s X. Ye posted a defiant comment about censorship on X, claiming it is an attempt to keep “the n—– down.” The song has also been shared by controversial figures like Andrew Tate, fueling the fire.

The Anti-Defamation League is pushing for stronger guidelines on Facebook and Instagram after Spotify removed Ye’s pro-Hitler song. Ye’s X account was briefly deactivated in February after he posted, “I’m a Nazi. Hitler was sooooo fresh.” Despite his apology after his 2022 antisemitic rant, Elon Musk’s hands-off stance on censorship offers little hope for addressing the ongoing hate speech on X. Amid this ongoing controversy, John Legend, Ye’s former friend, spoke out, sharing his thoughts on Ye.

John Legend reflected on the golden days of friendship and shared passion with Ye from the mid-2000s, expressing sorrow over how their relationship has changed dramatically over time.

Legend, signed by Ye in 2004 to ‘GOOD Music,’ witnessed Ye’s rise firsthand, noting how ‘The College Dropout’ changed both their careers after years of struggle and rejection.

Despite their fallout in 2022 over Ye’s support for Donald Trump, John Legend never expected things to escalate so drastically. He reflected on how Ye’s obsession with antisemitism and anti-blackness has become a disturbing part of his persona. Legend believes Ye’s struggles started after his mother’s death in 2007, with his decline accelerating over time. Before releasing his ‘Heil Hitler’ track, Ye also posted a 1935 Adolf Hitler quote. Now, with another controversial release, it seems Ye no longer cares about the backlash.
