Aer Lingus has taken a meaningful step toward inclusive air travel by implementing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, an internationally recognized initiative that helps travelers with non-visible conditions discreetly signal their need for additional support or understanding. For passengers and their families, this initiative offers tangible benefits that address common pain points in air travel.
By adopting the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower system, the airline equips its staff with the awareness and tools to better assist passengers dealing with autism, anxiety, chronic pain, ADHD, and other less apparent challenges. Frontline employees will receive specialized training to recognize the Sunflower symbol, which may be worn as a lanyard, badge, or wristband, and respond appropriately, whether through extended boarding time, clearer communication, or other accommodations tailored to individual needs.
This move aligns with a broader industry shift toward accessibility, as over 285 airports worldwide already participate in the program.
