Beginning March 2, the first Sunday of each month will feature reduced sensory stimulation during the zoo’s initial four operating hours. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will make adjustments to noise levels, lighting, and select attraction effects to accommodate visitors with sensory sensitivities. The initiative also boasts complimentary sensory kits, including noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, and tinted glasses. These will be available for checkout. Detailed pre-visit resources like sensory maps and social narratives, on the other hand, are also introduced to help families prepare for their experience at the zoo.
This programming builds upon the zoo’s existing Sensory Inclusive™ certification from KultureCity.
