How I got the photo: Springtime Blooms

I adore playing in the studio and getting creative with some lighting. This session was all about some pretty springtime blooms and high key. I was playing with the new Neewer HS60B LED Light. This is a bi-color continuous hand-held light and it comes with the cute little dome diffuser (see in foreground). Let’s have a look.

Behind the scenes setup

How I got the photo: Setting the scene

To set my scene, I put the larger LED light and softbox behind my table. I then placed a piece of white acrylic over the table and added my flowers. I staged my scene with a simple glass jars and pretty blooms, that’s it. I put my camera on a tripod, so I could hold the Neewer HS60B and an additional mini diffuser where I needed it for the shot. Roughly about 45 45-degree angle and from above.

How I got the photo: Camera gear and settings

  • Camera: Sony a7R V
  • Lens: Tamron 28-75mm lens
  • Camera settings: ISO100, f/9, 1/30secs (on a tripod)
  • Neewer HS60B LED Light and in the background is the Neewer CB200C LED Light with 85cm softbox.

I did have to take it into Photoshop to clean up the background, but that was a super easy fit.

So what do you think? Have you tried shooting springtime blooms in high key like this?
