Chessington World of Adventures theme park and hotel resort evacuated after ‘threat’ issued

A major British theme park was evacuated today after a threat was issued.

Chessington World of Adventures and its hotel in Surrey were forced to close – with police and emergency crews seen rushing to the site.

Police have now confirmed that no security issues had been identified and that there was no wider risk to the public.

The theme park said that customers with tickets could use them at Legoland in Windsor or contact its customer services team after 2pm today.

The resort wrote in a post on social media: ‘Chessington World of Adventures is currently closed.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will provide a further update as soon as possible.’

A social media user said that staff wouldn’t reveal why the park was being closed to customers.

He added that police and paramedics were both present.

The nearby road, A243 Leatherhead Rd, is closed each way between B280 Fairoak Lane and Barwell Business Park.

There have been no confirmed injuries or arrests.

A Met spokesman said: ‘We are aware of a threat made on the morning of Sunday, 8 November against a theme park in Chessington.

‘The matter has been assessed, and no security issues have been identified. This is believed to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.’

The Met Police urged people not to speculate as to why the park was closed.

The resort and the London Fire Brigade have been contacted for comment.
