Forest Green apologise for failing to commemorate Remembrance Day at a home match due to ‘mistake’

Forest Green Rovers have apologised for failing to commemorate Remembrance Day at a home game, labelling it as ‘human error’ and a ‘mistake’ from the club.

Remembrance Day is November 11 with Forest Green’s sole fixture around that date having been Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup first-round defeat at Luton Town. Both teams commemorated the occasion ahead of kick-off at Kenilworth Road.

Forest Green’s last home fixture prior to that was a 2-2 draw with Harrogate Town on October 31 in the National League.

That encounter at The New Lawn saw supporters of the fifth-tier side take to a fan forum post-match questioning why nothing was in place for Remembrance Day – due to their then-forthcoming clash with Luton being an away tie.

Forest Green owner Dale Vince replied on the club’s Fan Advisory Board, admitting it was an oversight on their part.

‘The lack of Remembrance at a home game is simply down to a human error/mistake on the club,’ he wrote.

Vince continued that a condensed schedule in this period didn’t help matters, but still acknowledged that the club should have done more.

‘It didn’t help that we had a sizable number of games in a small time frame (including the FA Cup replay) beforehand; albeit that isn’t an excuse, we should have got this right.’

Following the incident, the 65-year-old confirmed that Forest Green would contact the Royal British Legion for advice on future commemorations to ensure this wouldn’t happen again. He also underlined that the missed home commemoration did not signal any change in the club’s support for Remembrance or the Royal British Legion.

‘This was a simple error/mistake,’ he reiterated.
