Horror moment two men dump duffle bag on Brooklyn sidewalk as church-going man’s dead body is found inside

The horrific moment two men dumped a duffle bag on a Brooklyn sidewalk with a young man’s body shoved inside was captured on video.

Joseph Owusu, a 24-year-old Ghanaian man, was identified by his family and officials as the man discovered in a duffle bag on East 93 Street and Avenue L, in Canarsie on October 30.

Chilling surveillance video showed two people unloading a heavy duffle bag with Owusu’s body from the trunk of a white sedan.

The masked figures then dragged it onto the sidewalk and immediately drove away.

Hours after the incident, the video captured a scrap metal collector walking in daylight and picking up the bag.

The New York City Police Department responded to a 911 call that same day and determined Owusu was unconscious and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made by the NYPD. An autopsy is being conducted on Owusu’s body.

Kobo Yeboah, Owusu’s brother, told ABC News that he and his family have struggled to cope with the unexpected loss.

‘I need justice for Joseph. I want the truth to come out, the truth to come out because my brother didn’t deserve to die the way he did. He’s only 24. He had a lot of living to do,’ Yeboah told the outlet.

Ghanaian Embassy officials in New York have visited the family to support them after the tragedy.

‘The bereavement visit was undertaken on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who phoned in, expressed heartfelt condolences, support, and solidarity of President Mahama and the Government of Ghana with Madam Mavis and her family,’ the Ghanaian Embassy wrote in a Facebook statement.

The Owusu family described the young man as a ‘dedicated’ and ‘talented musician’ who served as a chorist at the Ghana United Methodist Church in the Bronx.

‘He loved the church. He loved things of God. From the church, from his friends, he was loved by everyone, everyone,’ Yeboah told the outlet.

According to his family, Owusu also provided support to people with disabilities at his job and was studying a computer science degree.

Owusu was found dead only a day after the death of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy from the Bronx who was shot and killed by a group of bullies on October 29.

‘I have been shocked and saddened by this tragic news, especially coming on the heels of the horrible news of the killing of 15-year-old Javits, also in the Bronx, New York,’ Ablakwa wrote in the statement.

Ablakwa ‘assured the bereaved family that the Government of Ghana stands firmly with them and will work with the relevant authorities and agencies of the United States Government to ensure that justice is served.’

Owusu’s family has since started a GoFundMe to raise money for his funeral arrangements.

Together they have raised over $15,000 of their $22,000 goal as of Saturday evening.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Victoria Owusu, the organizer of the fundraiser and the NYPD for comment as the investigation remains ongoing.
