Amazon Brazil is running a striking and thought-provoking initiative at the Latin America Memorial Library in São Paulo. The activation delivers a visceral commentary on racial inequity in Brazilian literature through an unconventional demonstration.

Amazon Brazil physically removed 95% of the Latin America Memorial Library’s 50,000-volume collection, leaving works by Black authors visible. The campaign serves as a jarring visual metaphor that underscores the disproportionate underrepresentation of Black voices in published works and within the library’s collection.

The symbolic act at the Latin America Memorial Library coincides with the launch of the Vozes Negras Kindle Award, a partnership between Amazon Brazil and Companhia das Letras that provides tangible support for independent Black authors through publishing opportunities, audiobook production, and cash prizes.
