Two passengers aged 80 and 16 die as light plane crashes in Scotland

A man and a 16-year-old boy have died following a plane crash in Scotland.

The light aircraft got into difficulty and crashed near Loch Lomond, north-east of Drymen, Stirling, at around 4.45pm on Friday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but the man, 80, and the teenager were pronounced dead.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch, which investigates civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents, has been informed, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Temporary airspace restrictions have been put in place in the area to allow investigations to continue.

The Piper Tomahawk II aircraft took off from Glasgow Airport on Friday at 4.17pm. It stopped transmitting 20 minutes later.

It is understood the plane had completed at least two other flights earlier in the day.

The Tomahawk, registration G-LFSU, is connected to a flight school named Leading Edge Flight Training, which has bases at Glasgow and Cumbernauld airports.
