Jadon Sancho offered fresh start as Getafe president confirms Spanish side are in talks with £73m Man United flop as part of ambitious double swoop for two high-profile free agents

Getafe have made an offer to sign former Man United flop Jadon Sancho, with the club’s president Angel Torres confirming their interest.

Sancho has been without a club since leaving Old Trafford at the end of his contract in the summer, and the winger has been considering his next move.

The 26-year-old, who won the last of his 23 England caps in 2021, has been linked with a number of clubs across the globe, including former side Borussia Dortmund.

A transfer is yet to materialise though, but Getafe have now made a formal offer for the Englishman.

An agreement is not believed to be simple but the Spanish side are hoping to find a way to get the deal done.

Speaking on Thursday to confirm his side’s ambition, Torres said: ‘We are in talks with Sancho, just as we were three or four months ago.

‘(Dani) Parejo could also be another option. We should be able to confirm whether or not we finalise these negotiations next week.’

Parejo, 37, left Villarreal at the end of last season after six years at the club, where he won the Europa League in 2021.

Having come through the ranks at Real Madrid, Parejo spent two years at Getafe between 2009 and 2011, before joining Valencia.

Getafe are competing in the Conference League this season and recently signed another high-profile free agent in former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal.

Sancho is understood to not be ruling anything out in regards to his future, although he favours a move abroad.

During his time as a free agent, the 26-year-old has been posting regular training videos to his Instagram account, and he was spotted using the facilities of tenth tier side Flixton FC in Greater Manchester in August.

Sancho joined Manchester United for £73million from Dortmund in 2021, a move he described as a ‘dream come true’ at the time, but one that quickly soured following the appointment of Erik ten Hag the following year.

By August 26, 2023, Sancho had played his last league game for the club amid a public fallout with the Dutchman.

Sancho was left out of the matchday squad for a game against Arsenal, and ten Hag said post-match this was due to poor performances in training.

The winger immediately hit back on social media, saying the claims were ‘completely untrue’ and insisted he was being made a ‘scapegoat’ by the club.

Sancho appeared to choose the wrong man to take on, as, after refusing to apologise, he was banished from the first-team by ten Hag.

He returned to Dortmund on loan in January 2024, before further temporary spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons respectively, ahead of his eventual departure as a free agent earlier this summer.

At the end of Sancho’s campaign at Stamford Bridge, the Blues had an obligation to buy him as part of the deal but paid a £5m penalty to renege on that agreement.

During the 2025-26 campaign, Sancho scored one goal and added three assists for Villa as they won the Europa League and came fourth in the Premier League.

Back in 2023, Getafe took a chance on a United exile by signing Mason Greenwood on loan after he had been cut from the first team.

That came after he was arrested and charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022, before charges and the case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew. Greenwood has always denied any wrongdoing.

Greenwood went on to shine in Spain, winning the club’s Player of the Year award after scoring ten goals, before he joined Marseille for £26.6m at the end of that season.
