WNBA star’s mom gets into furious altercation over ‘love beats hate’ sign at game against Sophie Cunningham after transgender controversy

This is the wild moment A’ja Wilson’s mom screamed at a man in the stands after he questioned her ‘love beats hate’ sign at a recent WNBA game.

Wilson was on the winning team as the Las Vegas Aces knocked the Indiana Fever out of the playoffs on Thursday night, but footage has now emerged of a shocking postgame moment involving her mom Eva.

After the players had left the court, the self-professed ‘momager’ paraded down the sideline showing off her sign, which read ‘love beats hate.’

As she made her way past a group of fans, she was confronted by Outkick sports reporter Jon Root, who asked her: ‘Can you tell me what your sign means?’

Eva bit back quickly and repeatedly replied: ‘What do you think it means? It means exactly what the sign says.’

She then pointed at Root and shouted in his face, while other fans jumped in to try and de-escalate the situation.

In a follow-up article for Outkick, the reporter claimed that A’ja Wilson ‘has a mother that loses her mind about someone daring to question the narrative that the Aces vs Fever match-up was essentially good vs evil.’

Root appeared to be claiming that Wilson’s mom’s sign was a direct jab at Sophie Cunningham, who spent much of the WNBA season embroiled in a transgender debate.

That first began back in July when the Indiana Fever guard gave a lengthy interview to ESPN in which she claimed that young girls shouldn’t have to compete against transgender athletes.

She then doubled down in further interviews, insisting it was ‘common sense’ and that she would ‘never falter’ in her beliefs.

Cunningham has since been the subject of abuse at various WNBA games and there have been protests supporting both sides of the argument across the country.

Wilson’s mom’s sign came just days after her daughter was involved in an on-court tangle with Cunningham that made headlines.

In Game 2, the pair got tangled up near the baseline before a male Fever fan in the crowd began to shout at Wilson.

Wilson then turned towards him, walked in his direction and screamed back, then being given a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct.

She was not banned by the league, a decision that Cunningham appeared to disagree with in an episode of her podcast a few days later.

‘That could have called for a suspension,’ she said. ‘But she’s like the LeBron James of our league so of course they’re not going to suspend her. There’s definitely a double standard.’

She also then told Wilson to ‘grow up’ in a follow-up comment, adding: ‘What are we doing?’
