A Russian beauty queen who controversially divorced Malaysia’s then-king after just a year of marriage appears to have left her tumultuous royal past behind.

Oxana Gorbatenko now lives in London, where she has reinvented herself as a businesswoman working in luxury real estate.

And her social media offers a glimpse into a glamorous jet-set lifestyle far removed from the royal scandal that made headlines around the world some seven years ago.

The former Miss Moscow, 34, is regularly pictured travelling to the world’s most exclusive destinations, including St Moritz, Mykonos, Ibiza, St Tropez and the Maldives.

The model is also an avid skier, sharing pictures of herself on snowy mountains in designer clothing with perfectly styled hair.

Her love of the high life does not end there, with videos showing her in Dubai dining at lavish restaurants, watching the sunset from the beach and taking luxury yacht trips.   

She is seen attending Royal Ascot in one photo, wearing a white two-piece set and a turquoise fascinator with an elaborate design.

‘Attending the royal horse races was not only a sporting pleasure but also an aesthetic one,’ she wrote on Instagram, posing in front of two Union flags.

Ms Gorbatenko also seemingly enjoyed a safari in Kenya last year, posing with giraffes and monkeys while looking glamorous in designer sunglasses. 

And, wearing a cap and gown, it appears this year she graduated from Imperial College London. It is not known what she studied at the elite Russell Group university.

But there is one conspicuous absence from her carefully curated social media presence – her young son, Leon.

The boy was born in May 2019, just months after his father, Malaysia’s Sultan Muhammad V, shocked the country by becoming its first monarch to abdicate.

Ms Gorbatenko’s relationship with the monarch had begun just a year earlier, after the pair reportedly met at a beauty pageant.

In 2018, when she was 26 and he was 49, they married in a whirlwind ceremony.

The 23-year age difference attracted attention, but the couple initially kept matters relatively private.

Gorbatenko converted to Islam to marry and began using the name Rihana Oxana Gorbatenko. This later changed to Rihana Petra.

But their apparent fairytale quickly unravelled when in January 2019 Muhammad V abdicated.

The former king never publicly gave a reason for his decision, although there was speculation surrounding his marriage to the former beauty queen.

Rumours also swirled that the monarch had been unfaithful to his model wife, while others suggested the relationship had brought embarrassment to the royal family.

Ms Gorbatenko was then already pregnant and she gave birth to Leon on May 21, 2019.

A fresh scandal erupted just weeks later when the couple announced their divorce. 

This was because the former sultan had doubts about Leon’s paternity and demanded a DNA test, according to reports at the time.

After Leon’s birth, Ms Gorbatenko initially shared many pictures of her baby on social media 

Muhammad V’s lawyer said there was ‘no objective evidence’ that the former monarch was the boy’s biological father.

But Ms Gorbatenko has always denied the claims, insisting Leon is his son. 

She has claimed the boy is ‘a copy’ of the monarch and suggested he was conceived on their honeymoon trip to Australia.

After Leon’s birth, Ms Gorbatenko initially shared numerous pictures of her baby online.

His face was not always visible, but she later began publishing images in which the boy could be seen.

She continued to document his growth for some time, describing her social media as a diary of her son’s life. Her blog also featured snaps from walks, moments at home and their life in London.

But, over time, the posts began to disappear and it emerged Ms Gorbatenko had been put under pressure by the royal family to stop showing pictures of Leon online. 

The changes to the model’s social media became particularly noticeable around a year ago, according to Russian media reports.

She first changed her name from Rihana Petra back to Oxana Gorbatenko.

Followers then noticed photos of Leon were disappearing from her page.

There is no official confirmation, however, that Muhammad V ordered Gorbatenko to stop posting photos of their son.

Meanwhile, Leon, now seven, is thought to be spending some of his time with his father – even after the bitter paternity row.

The former king has reportedly been spotted in London several times, including leaving toy shops carrying gifts.

And, according to Russian reports, Muhammad V has now acknowledged his son and is participating in his upbringing.
