California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sunday signed legislation that bars public officials from issuing meme coins and restricts cryptocurrency platforms from offering certain tokens linked to politicians to California residents.

Assembly Bill 2409, authored by Assemblymember Avelino Valencia, is aimed at preventing
