No TV is perfect out of the box, and it’s always best to make some adjustments to improve the picture and sound quality. A few simple tweaks can go a long way and make your Hisense TV feel like it’s had a free upgrade.
Unlike other brands, Hisense offers TVs with different operating systems, so you can decide which is best for you. They’re available with Google TV, Roku TV, Amazon Fire TV, or Hisense’s proprietary Vidaa OS, rebranded to Home OS in some territories.
You can optimize your Roku TV Hisense or Google TV models with a few simple settings. Here are the picture and sound settings to improve your Vidaa OS Hisense TV.
Change the Picture Mode
The easiest way to improve image quality
On a Hisense TV, you can change the Picture Mode in the quick access menu. It’s a square icon with two horizontal lines in it on the remote control. The first thing to change is the picture mode. Some modes, like standard and vivid, are usually too cool and have a bluish tinge to them. Energy saving reduces TV’s power consumption, but also reduces its brightness and overall performance.
I usually prefer Filmmaker mode, which displays movies the way they are meant to be seen.
I usually prefer Filmmaker mode, which displays movies the way they are meant to be seen. I also like Cinema mode as it provides an excellent balance and isn’t too warm or cool.
Picture Mode Settings
Fine-tune the brightness and other settings
After choosing a Picture Mode, you’ll need to adjust the Picture Mode Settings. Navigate to All Settings => Picture => Picture Mode => Settings, and you’ll see sliders to adjust the backlight, brightness, and contrast.
Backlight
Backlight refers to the overall intensity of the TV’s backlighting. Some Hisense TVs have many local dimming zones that work independently. Others have a fixed brightness you can increase or decrease. The ideal backlight setting depends on your room’s ambient lighting. Setting it at between 60 and 80% should be fine for most conditions, or you can increase it to 100% if your room’s very bright.
Brightness
The brightness refers to how dark or light the black levels are on your TV. The picture looks washed out if it’s too high, and the dark parts lack detail and become blurry if it’s too low. Keeping it near 50% will provide the best of both worlds, and you can always make it higher or lower depending on what you’re watching.
Contrast
A TVs’ contrast is the difference between the lightest and darkest parts of the screen. This setting is crucial for picture quality and must be perfectly balanced. The easiest way to do this is to have an onscreen image with dark and light parts. Then increase or decrease the contrast to your liking. The idea is to keep the image looking as detailed as possible without the dark parts looking grayed out or the light parts losing their texture.
Advanced Settings
Change the temperature and white balance
The Hisense TV Advanced Settings are for adjusting the temperature and other important picture elements. To access them, navigate to All Settings => Picture => Picture Mode Settings => Advanced Settings. You’ll find options to adjust the brightness, color, and clarity.
Brightness
This brightness setting is different from the previous one and includes a tool called Dynamic Backlight Control. It automatically adjusts your TV’s backlighting in real-time by analyzing what’s on the screen. You can set it to low, high, or off. It’s best to leave it off as the constant brightness adjustments can be distracting.

Color
Color is another setting you should change on any Hisense TV. Enter the Color menu and go to Color Temperature. The standard options include Warm 1, Warm 2, Standard, and Cool. I don’t like cooler images and stick to the warmer options.
Low Blue Light
This setting further reduces the TV’s blue light to protect your eyes. I turn it on to keep the image warm and natural-looking.
Sound settings
Customize your audio
Audio is just as important as image quality for creating an immersive TV experience. On a Hisense Vidaa TV, navigate to All settings => Sound. Select Sound Mode.
Options include Standard, Theater, Music, Speech, Late Night, Sports. Choose whichever one suits you best. I use Speech which improves the dialogue on my TV.
Then I navigate back to All settings => Sound, and select Sound Mode Settings. It includes options, like Bass Boost, Surround Sound, Dialogue Clarity, and more to fine-tune the audio settings. Getting the best out of these settings depends on whether you’re using your TV’s built-in speakers, headphones, or a surround sound system.
It’s best to leave the Bass Boost and Surround Sound off and enable the Volume Clarity option if you’re using your TV’s built-in speakers. You can try enabling all of them if you have an advanced speaker setup.
After adjusting these settings, navigate to All settings => Sound => Audio Output Settings, then enable Dialogue Enhancement. You can also enable the HDMI eARC port if you’re planning on adding a soundbar or surround sound system.
