Tom Hiddleston has shown immense dedication to doing justice to his Marvel Cinematic Universe character. Over the years, the actor has brought characters such as Dr. Robert Laing in High-Rise and Jonathan Pine in The Night Manager to life. However, one character that remains inseparable from Hiddleston is the iconic villain Loki, whom he has played for more than a decade.

Looking back on his time playing the character in the MCU, as well as one of his earliest conversations with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Hiddleston expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to bring out the best in the iconic villain.

Tom Hiddlestion looks back at his lengthy stint as Loki

Tom Hiddleston was in attendance at the Zurich Film Festival, where he spoke about some of his most iconic roles, including Loki. During the interview, the actor recalled an early conversation with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who had informed him that he would be playing the character across multiple films and shows. Looking back on the experience, Hiddleston opened up about his getting this rare opportunity and his dedication to to do justice to the layered character.

“I never expected to be playing the character for this long,” he said during the interview at the Zurich Film Festival (via Variety). “But he’s a brilliant character of such depth and dimension […] “I knew where we had started in ‘Thor,’ and I wanted to get back to his capacity for love and his belonging to his family,” he added.

Hiddleston has appeared as Loki in seven films and two seasons of Loki. And after spending so many years with the character, he eventually began looking for the best way to bring Loki’s arc to a satisfying conclusion. While there is much speculation around the character in the universe now, it remains unknown whether Loki could make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. During his interview at the Zurich Film Festival (via Variety), the actor did not mention much about the much-anticipated movie.

Playing a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for so many years not only came with an incredible experience for Hiddleston, but also gave the actor the opportunity to form some of his best friendships.

Tom Hiddlestone’s friendship with CHris Hemsworth

Tom Hiddleston recalled that one of his fondest memories of working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the friendship he developed with Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor. During the early stages of filming the Marvel films, the two actors formed a close friendship, as Hiddleston shared. He further recalled that Marvel Studios had only released one film, Iron Man, at the time, and both actors were fans of the movie and impressed by the vision.

Hiddleston reflected on how they enjoyed the incredible opportunity to be part of this new cinematic universe, as well as the resources and scale that came with working on Marvel projects. From his early days alongside Chris Hemsworth to Loki’s evolution across films and television, Hiddleston’s Marvel journey has been an incredible chapter of his career.
