Paramedics are assisting at least 21 patients following a horror bus crash in the Yarra Ranges.

Emergency services were called to the Melba Highway at Glenburn about 2.40pm on Thursday following reports of a collision involving a bus.

Unconfirmed reports suggest at least one person died in the crash.

It is not known how many vehicles were involved or how many people were aboard the bus.

However, Ambulance Victoria confirmed at least 21 patients were being treated. 

A teenage boy was airlifted to The Alfred in a serious condition with upper body injuries.

A man in his 50s was treated and transported by road ambulance to Box Hill Hospital in a serious condition.

A teenage girl was transported by road ambulance to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

A teenage boy was transported by road ambulance to Maroondah Hospital in a stable condition with upper body injuries.

Footage on social media showed the bus halfway down an embankment on the side of the highway. 

One car, also down an embankment, was completely destroyed with witnesses seen hugging on the roadside.  

Multiple Mobile Intensive Care Ambulances and Advanced Life Support paramedics were at the scene.

‘Our paramedics’ priority is with their patients. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available,’ Ambulance Victoria said in a statement. 

The Melba Highway was closed between Yea and Healesville-Kinglake Rd, Castella.
