Resident Evil (2026) 4K UHD, Blu-ray and streaming release available ‣ Diverse Daily

Resident Evil hit cinemas this past weekend and famed horror director Zach Cregger’s take on the famed video game franchise has proven to be a massive success thus far, both critically and commercially.

The video game adaptation, which has a franchise-best 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, stars Austin Abrams as medical courier Bryan, who is tasked with delivering something to the infamous Raccoon City, just as a dangerous virus begins spreading. This newest take on the franchise is a full reboot of the movie series, and is not connected in any way to the previous series of films starring Milla Jovovich, 2021’s Welcome to Raccoon City, or the single-season Netflix TV show of the same name.

The film has done incredibly well, earning a series-best $60 million domestically and $48.3 million internationally for a global start of $108.3 million in its opening weekend. This is above Sony’s initial projections for the movie’s overall performance, and all but ensures a long theatrical release, likely through the end of October.

Though we don’t anticipate this film leaving theaters any time soon, if you can’t wait to get your hands on Resident Evil’s home release, it is now available to pre-order both on digital platforms and physically, with a limited-edition Steelbook also available.

No release dates are available, but digital should be available before the end of the year

While we don’t have an at-home streaming date yet, Resident Evil is now available to pre-order digitally on several major platforms, including Apple TV and Fandango at Home for $25. For those who would like a physical and digital copy, pre-orders for the film in both Blu-ray and DVD as well as a special edition 4K UHD steelbook (which all include a digital copy) are also live at Walmart and Amazon. No information about special features on these physical editions has been released just yet.

Currently, none of these pre-order pages contain a release date, and Sony’s at-home releases can be a bit hard to pin down as they don’t have a specific release window formula like Universal or Disney. Given its box office performance, however, it seems likely that this horror movie will be available digitally as early as November. As for the physical release, we’d expect that to follow along shortly after, with this title hitting store shelves (or your mailbox if you decide to preorder) before the end of the year.

Though Sony has an exclusivity deal with Disney+ when it comes to previously-released movies from the Spider-Man franchise, other movies from this production company stream exclusively on Netflix after their digital storefront exclusivity window thanks to a first-run deal with the streaming giant. Since this is a high-profile title, the digital storefront release will probably be exclusive to platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home for several weeks following the film’s theatrical run, which, as mentioned previously, will probably end in November.

With this in mind, it seems unlikely that Resident Evil will stream on Netflix before the end of the year. Right now, I’d guess that the film will hit the streaming giant sometime in January 2027, perhaps even as early as New Year’s Day.
