Rescue teams in Utah have recovered the body of one of two women who went missing after being thrown from a jet ski in a horrific accident.

The women, one of whom was pregnant, were visiting the Sand Hollow Reservoir in Hurricane with their dog.

Police said that the accident took place at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.

After an intense search, the body was found by the Utah Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division at about 3pm Thursday.

A 23-year-old jet ski driver, identified by the police as Antonio Omari Lewis, was allegedly drunk, authorities said. 

Lewis told the police that the vessel hit a cross-wave, spewing everyone into the water, according to KSNV.

None of them were wearing a life jacket, authorities said.

Lewis has been booked for two second-degree felony counts of automobile homicide.

The two women were accompanied by their dog on the jet ski. The operator of the watercraft was drunk at the time of the accident

A bystander heard cries and rushed to the location, according to KVVU.

The witness looked around and located the jet ski without a key in the ignition.

Lewis was pulled out of the lake by the bystander. The dog was also saved.

After his rescue, Lewis told the bystanders that the women were dead and said he wished to die as well, Fox News reported.

The police have not confirmed which victim was recovered Thursday.

Their identities will be released after notifying their families.

An acquaintance of the victims confirmed with the police that one of the women was 4.5 months pregnant with twins.

The women were 26 and 28, KSNV reported.  

The search for the other woman is still going on. Police will reveal their identities after confirming with their families

Lewis told the investigators that the two women had urged him to accelerate before he had to make a sharp left turn.

He added that he held onto one of the women for a few seconds but had to let go to stay afloat himself.

Witnesses said that Lewis had explicitly refused to wear a life jacket earlier that day.

‘He felt that he would look like a fool because he worked as a lifeguard,’ bystanders said, according to KVUU. 

The young man was even denied access to another watercraft after he refused to wear a life jacket.

Lewis smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes when rangers questioned him, rangers noted, according to KVUU.

He was slurring his words when being questioned by the rangers.

He even called the evaluation ‘stupid’ and refused both the preliminary breath test and requests for a voluntary blood draw, according to police.

In a later interview with the State Bureau of Investigation, he admitted to consuming shots of tequila throughout the day.

Utah DNR officials extended their condolences to the victims’ family and friends in an Instagram post.
