Travis Kelce has parted ways with the jersey he wore for his latest record-breaking game with the Kansas City Chiefs, handing it to a teammate who left wife Taylor Swift ‘freaking out.’

The Chiefs made an explosive start to the new NFL season after last year’s humbling campaign, laying down a marker to their Super Bowl rivals by destroying the Denver Broncos 31-10. 

Kelce caught a 59-yard pass and finished the game with three catches for 71 yards, delighting Swift, who watched the game in a suite alongside actor Tom Cruise.

Thanks to his efforts, Kelce reached another impressive milestone in his career and moved into second place in most receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history, surpassing Jason Witten. 

Entering Monday’s game, Kelce needed 44 yards to overtake Witten and now stands behind only Tony Gonzalez with 13,073 yards for his career.

But he was not in a sentimental mood and gave his jersey to Xavier Worthy, who shared Kelce’s touching message on Instagram. Kelce wrote: ‘X! My brother forever! Cherish every time we step on the field. One of the realest on & off the gridiron!’

The lightning fast wide receiver has spent the last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs

Swift was among those to ‘freak out’ when Kansas City selected Worthy with the 28th overall pick of the 2024 draft.

She informed Kelce that he had a new teammate at the time and then she watched as Worthy and her husband led the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl in February 2025.

After five Super Bowl appearances in six seasons, Kansas City failed to make the playoffs last season, while a tough season for Worthy was compounded when he needed surgery after tearing his labrum.

The 23-year-old’s shoulder popped out after he collided with Kelce on the Chiefs’ third offensive play of the season. Worthy struggled through the pain before eventually going under the knife in January.

Speaking to The Daily Mail this offseason, Worthy revealed he quickly learned what makes Kelce so special.

‘It’s cool watching and learning and picking his brains,’ he said.

‘When he tells you: “Sometimes you can slow down and do this, or sometimes you should think about doing this,” Worthy added. ‘It’s exactly how it plays out.’

The receiver continued: ‘He’s a future Hall of Famer and he walks around just like a normal guy. So it makes everybody just [realize]: OK, I could go in there and be [my] person. No need to try to be better than the next person.’

‘I met her and shook her hand,’ he says of Swift. They chatted after a game. ‘It was cool,’ Worthy continues. ‘She’s a mega star.’
