Boy, 16, dies after car crashes into tree leaving two others injured: Driver, 18, is arrested


A 16-year-old boy has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree. 

A blue Volkswagen Polo smashed into a tree in Worcestershire on Saturday evening. 

The driver, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drink and drugs.

He has been interviewed and has since been bailed as inquiries continue.  

The car crashed leaving the carriageway of the A4104, near Defford and Bourne Road in Worcestershire at around 9.20pm. 

The teenage boy suffered ‘significant injuries’ and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. 

Two other passengers, aged 16 and 17, suffered minor injuries.  

Detective Sergeant Rose Hughes, of West Mercia Police, said the family of the teenager were being supported by specialist officers and appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

She said: ‘Firstly, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the boy who tragically lost his life yesterday.

‘They are being supported by specialist officers and will be kept informed throughout the investigation process. 

‘We are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision, or the vehicle travelling prior to the incident taking place. 

‘If you have any information or dashcam footage which may help us piece together the moments leading up to the collision, please get in contact with us.’
