Aldi launched a series of limited-edition hot cross buns for Easter celebrations, including a curious cola-flavored hot cross bun. But before knowing this flavor, hot cross bun lovers went in blind, biting into a surprise variety that was unnamed on the colorful product packaging, challenging consumers to put their taste buds to the test and come up with the right answer for themselves.

As part of its limited-edition Village Bakery Mystery Hot Cross Buns range, Aldi also launched a tropical mango-passionfruit flavor and another inspired by a quintessential British favorite, strawberry jam. The first-ever guess the hot cross bun flavor competition brought in thousands of guesses, with some consumers mistaking the cola-flavored hot cross bun for lemon meringue and others guessing mango-passionfruit as mango chutney.
