Oscars 2025: Chris Rock Reveals if He’d Host Oscars Again After Will Smith Slap (Exclusive)
Not all of Chris Rock‘s jokes have been the freshest.
At least, according to his audience. More than two decades after the Madagascar star hosted the Oscars for the first time in 2005, he revealed which celebrity was especially unimpressed by his onstage quips.
“I think I went a little too hard on Jude Law,” Rock, 61, admitted to Variety in an interview published Sept. 8. “We’re fine now. But I remember bumping into him early after that, and he was definitely not having it.”
He recalled the awkward run-in taking place at the Chateau Marmont, surrounded by his friends, adding, “I was at the Chateau with Courtney Love, and Courtney was growling, ‘Get the f–k out of here.'”
E! News has reached out to Love and Law’s reps for comment and has not yet heard back.
At the time of Rock’s monologue at the 77th annual Academy Awards, Law—who was nominated for Best Actor for Cold Mountain the year before—was at the height of his career with six films premiering in 2004, including Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Alfie.
