Kensington Palace announced that Prince George would start at Eton College in September 2026

Prince George, who turned 13 in July, is hitting a new milestone in September.
Kensington Palace confirmed that he would be starting school at Eton College come the fall semester. He is following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, and uncle, Prince Harry, who also attended the prestigious boarding school.
Eton College houses about 1,350 students across 25 boarding houses, and each boy has his own room, per their website. Since its founding in 1440, the school has educated 20 British prime ministers, cultural figures and generations of royals.
The school is also close to William and Kate Middleton’s family home, about a 15-minute drive from Forest Lodge in Windsor.
As a student, Prince William often walked to Windsor Castle on Sundays to have lunch with Queen Elizabeth. Now, George will become the next future king to join the royal tradition at Eton.

Prince William

Prince William started school at Eton in 1995, becoming the first future British monarch to attend the school. Earlier generations favored Gordonstoun School in Scotland, with Prince Philip and King Charles getting their education there.
At Eton, William was allowed to have as normal an experience as possible and was only photographed a small number of times due to a special agreement with the press.
“Prince William is not an institution; nor a soap star; nor a football hero. He is a boy: in the next few years, perhaps the most important and sometimes painful part of his life, he will grow up and become a man,” Press Complaints Commission Chairman John Wakeham said about the agreement, per Town & Country.

Prince Harry

Prince Harry joined the school in 1998, three years after his brother’s enrollment. He completed his education in 2003 before starting his military training at Sandhurst.
In an interview with Time, Harry said that the only reason he did not drop out of school was because of football, rugby and other sports that were offered by Eton.
“Sport held me together … I was one of those kids at school who did not enjoy classroom work,” Harry said.

Prince Edward, Duke of Kent

The Duke of Kent, a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth, attended Eton before beginning a long career of public service.
He was first educated at Ludgrove, the same prep school later attended by Prince William and Prince Harry, before moving on to Eton and then Le Rosey in Switzerland.
He later trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he earned recognition for his skill in foreign languages.

Prince Michael of Kent

Also a first cousin of the late Queen, Prince Michael attended Eton before beginning his military training at Sandhurst.
He is a qualified Russian interpreter, speaks fluent French and has working knowledge of German and Italian. Michael also runs his own consultancy firm.

Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester

Prince Richard, another first cousin of Queen Elizabeth, attended Eton College before continuing to study architecture at Cambridge.
As the younger son of Prince Henry and Princess Alice, Richard was not expected to inherit the Gloucester title and was working as an architect. However, he unexpectedly became the first in line to inherit the title after his older brother, Prince William, died in a plane crash at age 30.
After the death of his father, Richard succeeded to the family’s titles: Duke of Gloucester and the Earl of Ulster (which his son now bears).

Samuel David Benedict Chatto and Arthur Robert Nathaniel Chatto

Queen Elizabeth’s sister Princess Margaret had one daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto, who married Daniel Chatto in 1994.
The couple’s two sons, Samuel and Arthur, both attended Eton in the 2000s and 2010s. Samuel is now a sculptor and Arthur has served with the Royal Marines.

Charles Patrick Inigo Armstrong-Jones

Princess Margaret’s only son, David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowden, was married to the Hon. Serena Alleyne Stanhope from 1993 to 2020.
They welcomed two children during their relationship, Charles Patrick Inigo Armstrong-Jones and Lady Margarita Elizabeth Rose Alleyne Armstrong-Jones.
Their son attended Eton at the same time as his cousins and went on to study production design engineering at Loughborough University.
