According to Celtic tradition, this group of beings, described as unattractive, was believed to have descended from Noah’s son Ham, who was cursed by Noah.

As a result of this curse, these beings were often depicted as one-legged and one-armed monsters. They were characterized as superstitious and tyrannical. The populations they conquered were either enslaved or compelled to pay a severe tribute consisting of two-thirds of all children and cattle born.
