Festival season is here, and streaming services are taking part in a big way. The Toronto International Film Festival features a number of titles put forth by streamers, including notable TV series in addition to movies. Perhaps one of the biggest entries is Apple TV, whicih is showcasing a pair of films in the Gala program as well as a popular returning TV series.

TIFF runs from September 10 through September 20. Here are all the Apple TV titles you need to know about.

Slow Horses Season Six Begins

Attendees at this year’s TIFF will get a peak at the beginning of the latest season of Apple’s long-running spy series Slow Horses. The sixth season kicks off officially on the streamer September 16, with one episode dropping each week on Friday. However, you can catch the first two episodes of the season back-to-back at a screening during TIFF.

The beloved British drama centers on a group of disgraced MI5 agents who, for one reason or another, become relegated to a subunit run by cantankerous and hygiene-adverse Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman). While the show certainly features plot lines that extend throughout the series, each season typically features a single story that spans six episodes, introducing and resolving a major plot point in that time.

The showing is part of a Primetime lineup TIFF is featuring this year, where it will showcase 10 new and returning TV shows, screening two episodes of each. While Slow Horses is the only Apple TV show to get the treatment, the program will also feature shows from other streamers, including Prime Video’s Carrie and Peacock’s Crystal Lake.

Being Heumann kicks off TIFF on opening night

Film follows the Disability Rights Movement from CODAdirector

Apple TV gets the honor of having one of its movies as the TIFF Opening Night Gala Film in Being Heumann. The film is a fictionalized account of the Disability Rights Movement led by Judy Heumann (Ruth Madeley). By Oscar-winning filmmaker Siân Heder, who also helmed Apple TV’s CODA, the story follows Heumann as she rallies Americans with disabilities to campaign the government for protection and support, taking them from New York to San Francisco and on to Washington, D.C.

The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Madeline Delp, and Dylan O’Brien. Being Heumann will have its World Premiere on Thursday, September 10. It debut on Apple TV on November 13.

Historical adventure Tenzing gets a world premiere

Story recreates first summit of Mount Everest

Apple TV has another film featuring a historical moment playing at TIFF with Tenzing, an account of the first summit of Mount Everest. Based on the title, the film presumably centers Tenzing Norgay (Genden Phuntsok), the Himalayan Sherpa mountaineer, who, alongside Edmund Hillary (Tom Hiddleston), became the first people to reach the top of the famed mountain in 1953.

Tenzing is directed by Jennifer Peedom, who has filmed numerous documentaries about mountaineering and high-altitude climates. Her background, paired with Apple TV’s penchant for incredible photography, suggest this movie is going to be stunning to look at, and perhaps best enjoyed on the big screen.

Tenzing is part of the Gala Presentation program at TIFF, and will feature three public screenings. It will be released in theaters on October 9 and premiere on Apple TV October 16.
