At least two police officers were shot when a gunman opened fire at a South Carolina park on Saturday. 

The suspect, who has not been named, was killed in the shootout, police said. 

The shooting unfolded at Columbia Park in Columbia, South Carolina, at around midday local time. 

Images from the scene showed a large police presence at the park, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said the scene was ‘secure’.

The sheriff’s department said the park remains closed, and it urged the public to avoid the area. 

Officials have not given details of the condition of the police officers who were involved in the shooting.
