A federal judge on Friday blocked President Donald Trump’s latest effort to move his criminal conviction in a New York hush money case from state to federal court – rejecting a move that would have made it easier to have his conviction tossed.
The effort is the third time Trump has tried and failed to move his case from state to federal court, and comes after jurors in New York state convicted Trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records stemming from the $130,000 hush money payment he made to the porn star Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 election.
The judge, US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein, said Friday that Trump’s new request to move the case was neither ‘new nor legally sufficient’ to warrant the venue change. Trump, he said, ‘has failed to show good cause and diligence.’
