Adam Driver is glad that he joined the MCU for “the right film at the right time.” For a moment, the X-Men reboot has snatched the spotlight from Avengers: Doomsday as the most talked-about MCU project right now. And why would it not be the topic of discussion? After all, it is touted by Marvel as a key stepping stone toward setting up Phase 7 of the MCU following the conclusion of Phase 6 with Avengers: Secret Wars.
However, as one takes a good look at the hype around the upcoming film, the majority of it is surrounding the cast, specifically Adam Driver – once an elusive name on Marvel’s bucket list, now its most important piece of the puzzle that is the MCU’s X-Men saga.
The actor also expressed his feelings about joining the ship that has been chasing him for years.
Adam Driver on landing the role of Mister Sinister
Avengers: Secret Wars will formally wrap up Phase 6 in December 2027, marking the end of the Multiverse Saga. However, Adam Driver, a well-known Hollywood personality, is next in line to enter the MCU chronology for the super exciting Mutant Saga, which will be the core of Phase 7. He will play a major villain for Marvel Studios, much like he did in the Star Wars franchise.
“Kevin [Feige] and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” Driver said in a video address to the crowd at D23 2026, the event where his casting was initially announced.
“And I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time, with characters I care very deeply about. So, I’m very excited to be playing Mister Sinister,” the actor added.
That remark validates what a lot of fans have already surmised: Marvel was courting Driver for a long time and for different roles. Back in 2022, there were rumors that Driver had negotiations with Marvel about playing either Reed Richards or Doctor Doom in the studio’s Fantastic Four movie. These meetings were said to have taken place that summer, but they never materialized at the time.

It appears that those first discussions eventually led someplace, albeit with a new character attached, years later. Instead of going into a more traditional heroic image, Mister Sinister represents a very different kind of character than any of those earlier choices, allowing Driver to explore a villain with strong roots in X-Men mythology.
However, judging by the excessive marketing around Adam Driver’s character, which includes recent concept art, it is clear that Marvel is packaging him as the biggest inconvenience for the X-Men.
Marvel’s hidden intentions with the X-Men storyline
In light of Adam Driver’s casting as Nathaniel Essex, also known as Marvel’s Mister Sinister, in Jake Schreier’s X-Men revival, well-known graphic designer and illustrator Spdrmnkyxxiii posted images of what the Paper Tiger actor may look like as the legendary comic book antagonist in a live-action film. However, as the mutant era prepares to take center stage in the ever-expanding superhero domain, Marvel’s X-Men reboot will be the first live-action use of Mister Sinister.

Kevin Feige has stated that casting is still ongoing; thus, it is unknown whether he will be the main antagonist of the film or will partner up with an even bigger threat, as he has done several times in the comics. For now, we just know that Marvel has scored a crucial win with Driver, and the actor is also happy with the role.
