Beloved husband named as third In-N-Out shooting victim as his wife remains in critical condition after they were shot THROUGH windshield of their Tesla, friends say

A beloved father-of-three has been identified as the third victim of a fatal mass shooting at an In-N-Out restaurant over the weekend, which also left his wife severely injured.

Dale Schultz, 66, of Salt Lake City, and his wife Reinette Schultz, had stopped at the Twin Falls eatery on their way home from a family reunion at around 2.30pm on Saturday when Chad Williams, 24, fired an AK-style rifle at innocent customers and employees before turning the gun on himself.

The two were then shot through the windshield of their Tesla at point-blank range, their friend John Rohrbaugh told the Daily Mail.

Dale, an Air Force veteran, died from his injuries, while Reinette was rushed to a local hospital.

She has since undergone at least two reconstructive surgeries and was transferred to University of Utah Hospital, where she is being treated for extensive shoulder injuries as she continues to mourn her husband.

‘It kind of comes in waves. It sort of ebbs and flows,’ Scott Dodge, a deacon at St Olaf’s Catholic Church, told KUTV of Reinette’s recovery.

He went on to say she has ‘good moments,’ but then the ‘overwhelming reality of the tragedy,’ including what happened to Dale, is ‘crushing.’

An online fundraiser has since been set up to support Reinette with her medical expenses and the costs related to Dale’s funeral.

It notes she is ‘facing many surgeries and a long period of physical and emotional recovery.’

‘The trauma of this event has left her not only with medical bills, but also the overwhelming challenge of mourning Dale’s passing,’ reads the fundraiser, which had raised nearly $40,000 for the family by Wednesday evening.

‘Dale was a beloved member of the family, remembered for his kindness and the love he shared with Reinette,’ it notes. ‘Their lives were changed in an instant.’

Dale and Reinette had been together since they were just 15 years old, his brother, Jackson, told KTVB.

‘I would have said that he was the best of the Schultzes,’ the grieving brother asserted. ‘He was a man’s man and the best father that I know to his kids.’

‘All they had to do was call and ask him. He was there, always,’ added Jackson’s wife, Brenda.

The couple had planned to spend their retirement years taking trips.

‘We were talking about vacations we could go on,’ Jackson recounted through tears. ‘And that’s gone.’

Others in the Salt Lake community remembered Dale as an accomplished artist and an avid pickleball player who was ‘competitive but with a lot of patience in teaching people, especially young people,’ according to Dodge, who has been friends with the couple for 25 years.

‘The phrase that comes to mind when I think of Dale is just quiet confidence,’ he said. ‘And by confidence, I don’t mean it in any arrogant way. He was a very genuinely humble man.’

Dale would also play cornhole with his brother Jackson every week. On Tuesday, their brother, Glenn, played in Dale’s place and said many people shared how much they loved Dale.

‘You look at the downline of how many people this truly impacts – it will take an entire village to help Reinette, her daughters, her grandsons… It’s going to take a village to remotely even come close to helping to do what Dale just did all the time,’ Brenda said.

But Schultz’s artwork will now remain a lasting part of the parish, as he had recently dedicated a bronze-coated sculpture of St Olaf for the church. Church leaders have also said they plan to install a plaque dedicated to him and his wife.

The shooting on Saturday also took the lives of Ashley Garibay, 23, of Stockton, California, an employee at the restaurant, and a customer named Christopher Claunch, 59, while seven others were left injured.

Following the shooting, Garibay’s mother, Sabrina Garibay, changed her profile picture to an image of the two after the shooting, and loved ones commented their condolences.

‘Ashley you are so beautiful. You will be missed so much . I remember when you were baby and you to come stay with me so mom could go to work,’ one family member commented.

‘You have become a beautiful young lady. Rest in paradise.’

In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder, who did not name the employee, previously described Garibay as a ‘beautiful’ associate who was working at the drive-thru.

‘My heart is broken, my chest is heavy, my eyes burn from the tears I’ve shed,’ Snyder said in a statement shared on Sunday.
