Stefon Diggs is back in the NFL after signing a huge $12 million, one-year deal with the Washington Commanders.
Diggs, 32, enjoyed a productive year with the New England Patriots in 2025 but left at the end of the season and has since been embroiled in a bitter legal battle with a male influencer who accused him of sexual assault.
Despite the case lingering over his head, the Commanders have moved to seal his services for the 2026 season, handing him a one-year contract with more than $10m in guaranteed money.
The news, which was first reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, will see the wide receiver join his fifth NFL team in his 12th season in the league.
It is something of a homecoming for the NFL star, who grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland – just a 36-mile drive from the Commanders’ stadium in Landover.
Away from the field, Diggs has made more headlines than many NFL front offices would like, and until recently he was dating popstar Cardi B.

Diggs has been embroiled in several legal battles this year, some of which are still ongoing
Most notably, Diggs is in the process of dealing with a federal case in Maryland, after male influencer Christopher Blake Griffith made public accusations online that the NFL player drugged him and sexually assaulted him at his home.
Diggs categorically denies the allegations and has since sued Griffiths for defamation, with the case currently still ongoing.
Most recently, Griffiths handed over 100 pages of messages to the court, which he believes will back up his allegations of sexual assault. The content of the messages has not been revealed.
Separately, Diggs is being sued in a second case by a former college teammate and personal assistant over defamation and conspiracy claims.
The 32-year-old receiver was initially sued in Miami-Dade County back in February by Nigel King, who played alongside Diggs at Maryland and later worked for the NFL star.
As seen in the complaint obtained by The Daily Mail, King claims Diggs falsely blamed him for the 2024 theft of the NFL star’s Ferrari, which allegedly led Diggs’ associates to attack King at a Miami strip club in December.
Diggs is not personally accused of attacking King, but his brothers – fellow NFL free agent Trevon and another, Darez – are listed as defendants in the complaint for allegedly aiding and abetting other defendants.

In May, he was also found not guilty of felony strangulation as well as assault and battery charges against his former personal chef Jamila Adams.
The Commanders, it seems, were not fazed by the off-field issues plaguing the player and he will likely be an integral part of the offense alongside Jayden Daniels in 2026.
Diggs and Terry McLaurin will lead the receivers room in Washington, with third-round draft pick Antonio Williams also the source of some excitement within the team.
Diggs has been voted to the Pro Bowl four times and was a first-team All-Pro in 2020 when he led the league with 127 receptions.
