Three people were trapped following a two-car crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Emergency services remain on scene after reports of a head on crash in the southbound lanes of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, about 2.15pm. 

Three people are being treated  by NSW Ambulance paramedics for various injuries.

Sydney City Police are on the scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. 

The crash has caused major traffic congestion on the bridge, with long queues of vehicles stretching beyond the bridge. 

Road closures are in place and significant delays are expected.
