The two join Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock in the sequel to the spooky 1998 cult classic

A new chapter of Practical Magic is about to unfold.

Come Sept. 11, the 1998 film will get a sequel with stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock reprising their roles as the witchy Owens sisters, in addition to Joey King, 26, and Maisie Williams, 29, joining the franchise as siblings. And while further details are yet to be revealed — save for the glimpses featured in the trailer that dropped in June — fans can expect to get that nostalgic feeling that captured their hearts the first time around.

King and Williams, who appeared on a panel hosted by Vogue’s Chloe Malle during Teen Vogue Fest on July 25, shared how the costumes in Practical Magic 2 nod to the past.

“It’s heavily influenced by ‘90s fashion,” said King, who plays Kylie, daughter to Bullock’s Sally Owens. “There are a lot of custom pieces in this movie that are just so amazing. There’s a lot of lace, a lot of ethereal, whimsical colors.”

The actress also reflected on her favorite costume in the original, which was designed by Judianna Makovsky. “The fashion is so iconic in the first movie. And I mean, how sexy [do] Sandy and Nicole look…? Sandy [as Sally] running down the street [to Faith Hill’s ‘This Kiss’] in those boots and those shorts. I feel like our brilliant costume designer [Oscar winner Alexandra Byrne] took a lot of care in making sure that this movie had some really special fashion moments for everybody.”

Williams, who plays Sally’s other daughter Antonia, added that viewers should expect her outfits to lean more trendy with a vintage flair. “I think that Kylie and Antonia have very different styles. For Antonia, it feels…the silhouettes are very ‘50s in quite a classic way, but it’s modern day.”

With the two actresses dressed in Alessandra Rich and Marni at the N.Y.C. event, Malle asked if they were tempted to method dress their way through the upcoming press tour. “We’ve been taking a lot of inspiration from the late ‘90s and Sandra and Nicole’s red carpet looks at that time,” shared Williams, who wore a Marni polka-dot top, white lace pencil skirt and black heels. “A little witchy, but also just a little Practical Magic, that era.”

Backstage, the duo chatted with PEOPLE about the weight of stepping into the beloved franchise and introducing their own flair to the Owens’ universe. King said, “As fans of the original film ourselves, I feel like when you love something as much as we already love Practical Magic, there’s just massive responsibility of joining the team and wanting to do it justice.”

Williams said that Kidman and Bullock were huge support systems throughout filming. “Sandra just texted us both straight away and was like, ‘Welcome, anything you need.’ And that just made us feel so chill.”

“They are the best duo ever,” added King, who worked with Kidman on Family Affair. “I’m so in awe of her. She’s the nicest person ever. Sandy just took us under her wing as her daughters. It is really special to have this post-movie bond with her that we have.”
