Stranger Things may have wrapped up with Vecna defeated and Eleven vanishing into the Upside Down, but the franchise is far from closing the gate. If anything, it has only left fans craving more stories from the Upside Down. While a live-action continuation is far from happening anytime soon, there are still more stories from the Upside Down, the Demogorgons, and the devastating experiments involving Eleven and the other test subjects. 

However, instead of returning on Netflix, the next chapter of the Stranger Things universe is set to arrive in a comic version on a very different platform.

Stranger Things: SIX follows the story of Francine

Dark Horse Comics has kept fans satisfied with a steady stream of new stories exploring the Upside Down. Its latest series, Stranger Things: SIX, focuses on Test Subject Six and is expected to arrive on Webtoon, as reported by ScreenRant. The story follows Francine, a young girl brought to Hawkins Lab because of her rare ability of precognition, allowing her to see and even change the future.

As the experiments intensify, Francine is haunted by disturbing visions involving Demogorgons and other terrifying events. The series also introduces other test subjects, including Three, whose real name is Ricky. Ricky, who is shown as Francine’s love interest, possesses the ability to manipulate emotions.

While Stranger Things: SIX shows an intriguing backstory for Hawkins Lab’s test subjects, these characters received little attention in the original Netflix series. The Duffer Brothers did not treat the Dark Horse comics as canon, as per reports, and characters like Six and Three were ultimately depicted as being massacred during the 1979 Hawkins Lab massacre. However, the Stranger Things universe is far from over.

The Duffer Brothers have already confirmed that a live-action spin-off is in development and recently shared an update on its progress.

The Duffer Brothers confirmed that a Stranger Things live-action spin-off was in development back in 2022. However, there have been very few updates on the project since then. During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the duo revealed that they are not rushing the series and want to take their time to make it the best it can be. 

“We’re being very careful,” Duffer Brothers told Josh Horowitz. “We don’t want to rush it. We don’t want it to be anything but excellent. No one wants to make it just to make it. No one wants to just do it to continue Stranger Things. Like, it has to be awesome or forget it. That’s sort of everybody’s mentality about it.” 

There is undoubtedly intense pressure on the Duffer Brothers to bring yet another hit after the success of the original series and the launch of their production company, Upside Down Pictures. At the same time, that success has also set incredibly high expectations for the spin-off. For now, there is no official word on when the new Stranger Things pin-off series will be released.
