A mother has been killed and a young girl seriously injured in what police believe was a family violence incident at a Perth home. 

The woman’s 16-year-old son was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. No charges have yet been laid.

Emergency services were called to a home on Mills Street in Bentley about 6.15am on Tuesday, where they found a 35-year-old woman with fatal stab wounds.

A 12-year-old girl was also seriously injured but managed to flee the scene and call triple zero.

She was found 600m away near the Albany Highway, where passing motorists rushed to her aid.

The girl was rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police remain at the crime scene and are treating the incident as a suspected family violence homicide.

‘I can confirm there is no ongoing risk to the wider community,’ Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo told reporters.

‘This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved, as well as the broader community

‘Our thoughts are with them all, particularly the 12-year-old girl who remains in hospital receiving treatment.’

The home remained a cordoned-off crime scene on Tuesday, as detectives doorknocked the neighbourhood.

‘As part of this process, investigators will examine all available evidence and speak with relevant witnesses,’ Det Securo said.
